Zuccardi - Q Mendoza Tempranillo 2019

Zuccardi - Q Mendoza Tempranillo 2019

Familia Zuccardi is a family-run winery based out of the Bodega Santa Julia in the Mendoza region of Argentina. The company boasts numerous brands, each with a wide range of wines, covering classic Argentinian varieties (the wines are often varietally labelled) as well as numerous styles including sweet and sparkling wines. Zuccardi produced the country’s first premium Tempranillo and also runs olive oil brand Zuelo. Additionally, Zuccardi is known for experimentation in the cellar, making wines with little-known varieties such as Aglianico, Bonarda, and Ekigaina. It also produces fortified wines under the Malamado brand

Due to the scarcity of water in the Mendoza region, Alberto Zuccardi, the winery’s founder, experimented with a new irrigation system and, wanting to prove its worth to his neighbours, he planted a vineyard in Maipu. Five years after that first plantation, Zuccardi broke ground on a winery in the same spot to vinify the grapes that his irrigation method had allowed him to grow. The experiment led to Zuccardi becoming one of the most prominent and prosperous wineries in Argentina.

Their regional wines, Serie A, are varietal blends from select vineyards from the best plots in Mendoza. Each batch is harvested separately at different times to achieve elegance and excellence in the wine. The Serie Q has a focus on quality, hence the name. Their Zuccardi Q Tempranillo is made from selected grape clusters using native yeasts. Fermentation is with delestage and pigeage, a traditional approach. The wine is aged in oak barrels.

Their Poligonos Valle de Uco Cabernet Franc comes from the eponymous valley in Mendoza, Argentina. This wine is produced with grapes grown at 3,600 ft above sea level, making it a true mountain wine. It is vinified with native yeasts and aged in 500-liter French oak barrels.
