Achaval Ferrer - Finca Mirador Maipú Malbec 2014

Achaval Ferrer - Finca Mirador Maipú Malbec 2014

Achaval Ferrer is an Argentinian winemaker with a strong tradition. Over 100 years old, they are committed to preserving their legacy.

The foundation of the wine at Achaval Ferrer are its vineyards with old vines with extremely low yields. Many of their vines are own-rooted, i.e., they are pre-phylloxera vines. The planting and agriculture in the vineyard produce very low yields of concentrated juice–the second pillar of Achaval Ferrer. The third is a commitment to minimal intervention in order to allow for the true expression of the soil.

Achaval Ferrer has vineyards in the key wine-producing regions of Argentina. Their Altamira vineyard is located in the Valle de Uco. It dates to 1925 and it has alluvial origin, a slime-sandy surface layer and mixture of volcanic ash of about 30 cm, eroded rock layers, and it’s rich in volcanic sediments, typical of the Tupungato volcano.

On the shores of the river Mendoza, Bella Vista is the source of some of the best Malbec wine. It has alluvial soils with a 40cm layer of slimy and and pebbles.

Mirador is another old vineyard: it was planted in 1921. An excellent terroir for Malbec, the vineyard is surrounded by olive groves and quince trees. The soil is alluvial with clay and deep layers of pebbles.
