Zuccardi - Q Valle de Uco Chardonnay 2022

Zuccardi - Q Valle de Uco Chardonnay 2022

Familia Zuccardi is a family-run winery based out of the Bodega Santa Julia in the Mendoza region of Argentina. The company boasts numerous brands, each with a wide range of wines, covering classic Argentinian varieties (the wines are often varietally labelled) as well as numerous styles including sweet and sparkling wines. Zuccardi produced the country’s first premium Tempranillo and also runs olive oil brand Zuelo. Additionally, Zuccardi is known for experimentation in the cellar, making wines with little-known varieties such as Aglianico, Bonarda, and Ekigaina. It also produces fortified wines under the Malamado brand

Due to the scarcity of water in the Mendoza region, Alberto Zuccardi, the winery’s founder, experimented with a new irrigation system and, wanting to prove its worth to his neighbours, he planted a vineyard in Maipu. Five years after that first plantation, Zuccardi broke ground on a winery in the same spot to vinify the grapes that his irrigation method had allowed him to grow. The experiment led to Zuccardi becoming one of the most prominent and prosperous wineries in Argentina.

This wine is better than ever, shaped by Sebastian Zuccardi's lighter hand and inherent knowledge of soils. This wine was sourced from the limestone laced soils of Gualtallary & El Peral at Tupungato in the Valle de Uco, Mendoza. Pure, light lemon is bedded with lees and salty spice in this bright, fresh, textural white. After direct press, this was native fermented in a mix of concrete and 20 percent oak, aged on its lees with no malolactic fermentation; freshness is the aim. The mid-palate weight now is almost entirely lees-led (vs the wood of the past), bedding white peach, lemon blossom, pears and fine toast. Salted cashews and lemon pith linger on the lengthy finish. Very complete, offering a friendly view of the exciting new world of Argentine chardy.
