Torres - Viña Esmeralda Blanco
Familia Torres began producing wine in Vilafranca del Penedès in 1870, although their winegrowing roots date back to the 16th century. The family has been making wine now for five generations. Having expanded beyond Penedès, now the family produces wines in Conca de Barberà, Priorat and Costers del Segre.
The wines made today under the name Familia Torres represent a mosaic of properties that are largely historical, with winegrowing associations that reach far into the past. The basic operationg principle is knowing that the same lands being worked today were already being cultivated hundreds or even thousands of years ago. The Familia Torres feels responsible for ensuring that these vines and landscapes continue to speak through the wines that are made from them–honest and exuberant wines with an emphasis on elegance and a unique sense of place.
This predictable 'Mediterranean Classic' blends moscatel de Alejandría and gewürztraminer into a mid-sweet, aromatic white, ripe and rich with fragrantly perfumed orange blossoms, starfruit, mandarin on a creamy, lush, 11.5% package. The shorter finish is straight perfumed cold cream and spice, showing gew's straight up luxuriant side. Chill well, and break out the pretty bottle for guests who would be appreciative of such things (especially if you pour alongside fragrant seafood or veg Thai dishes).
