Proyecto Garnachas - Fosca del Priorat 2022
Vintae has its origin in the passion for wine of José Miguel Arambarri Terrero, a businessman from La Rioja who in 1999 decided to return to his family origins, to help recover the Small Grain Muscat in La Rioja which had disappeared due to phylloxera. His vision gave rise to Castillo de Maetierra and Maetierra Dominum, the two wineries that were the origin of Vintae. The business became what it is today when his sons, Richi and José Miguel, joined the business. Vintae is the group behind Hacienda López de Haro, producers of quality Rioja wines. But their interest are not hemmed in by traditional definitions of winemaking like appellations, hence the Proyecto Garnachas.
Proyecto Garnachas de España is a journey through Garnacha history from the perspective of Raul Acha, Vintae oenologist and passionate advocate of the variety. His journey begins in his family home in Cárdenas,La Rioja, where his grandfather planted Garnacha vineyards over one hundred years ago.
To understand the importance of the soil, Raul decided to look for sites with old Garnacha vineyards similar to those of his grandfather’s, in a journey through the Ebro basin. Along the way, he found some of the vineyards that best reflect the essence of this variety, and engaged in conversation with different winegrowers who told him about the local Garnacha history and its evolution.
The result of this adventure is a very personal collection of mono varietal wines that perfectly express the versatility, the nuances, and the singular characteristics typical of each area of Garnacha production.
