Niepoort has been a family business since 1842. Through five generations the business has passed successfully from one Niepoort to the next and, in most cases, the older and younger generation worked side by side for a long time. Dirk van der Niepoort is currently the fifth generation to lead the family company, but Dirk’s eldest son, Daniel, has also already joined the business.
This cloudy pét-nat ish Vinho Verde, comes from the sub-region of Lousada, and is a mix of Azal, Arinto, Avesso, Trajadura and Loureiro. It was bottled with a few grams RS, so it could continue to percolate in the bottle, affording it a gentle spritz. Hazy yellow apple, pear skin, apricot skin rules the slim, fuzzy palate, with a gentle rise of acidity to a subtly spiced finish. Crack now, with a brisk chill, and mates to share.
