Sogrape is a family-run company with a number of wine brands in its portfolio including Gazela. Founded by Fernando Van Zeller Guedes in 1942, it is currently run by Fernando da Cunha Guedes, and with his brother Salvador, the third generation of the family running the business.
Portugal’s north-western strip between the Douro and Minho Rivers, the Atlantic Ocean and the mountains, is the home of the vast Vinho Verde region. Facing the sea and higher inland, it is a cool region with a mild climate, crossed by rivers which demarcate its 9 sub-regions. Famed above all for its white wines, it is buzzing with new expressions of traditional grape varieties in different terroirs.
Historically, Vinho Verdes have been easy-going, food-friendly wines, especially in the Summer with their relatively low alcohol content and thirst-quenching characteristics. There is no more traditional Portuguese meal than grilled sardines with Vinho Verde.
Gazela is a vinho verde that seeks to broaden the definition of the category: it is a wine with no pretenses and very satisfying for every-day drinking. It pairs well with food, but it can also go it alone. The wine is made to be and taste fresh, without compromises in quality. Additionally, the low alcohol of this wine translates into lower calories with no flavour compromises!
