Bartier Bros. - Grenache Syrah 2022

Bartier Bros. - Grenache Syrah 2022

Bartier Bros. is a winery established by Don and Michael Bartier. Native to the Okanagan Valley, they feel a sense of responsibility to it, and have the desire to craft wines that are true to the Okanagan: bright, fresh, refreshing, pristine, unspoiled, and alive.

The Okanagan provides terrific wine growing conditions: relatively high altitude, desert climate (hot days, cool nights), low humidity, tolerable winters from its moderating lakes, young soils lain over glacial till, and all of this occurs at a very high latitude from the equator.

Their wine making has won Bartier Bros. recognition, receiving within three years two Canadian White Wine of the Year, while their reds have received several consecutive Lieutenant Governor’s awards.

Their winemaking approach is simple but has yielded great results: plant the correct grapes in the correct site, and farm well, taking the long view. During harvest, take the best fruit to the cellar, and make sure that the vineyard character, not the winemaker’s manipulations make it to the glass. Lastly, don’t copy other regions–just make good Okanagan wine. Those places make beautiful wines, but they’re different from what the Okanagan gives, and those producers don’t have the privilege of working with Okanagan grapes.
